Mensur Suljovic should be taken seriously as a title contender at the World Grand Prix despite his eccentric image, says Rod Studd.

After meandering around in the backwaters of darts for years, Mensur has finally found his real ability. On first appearances, he seems an idiosyncratic darts throwing stork. He was famous for being a slow thrower, standing on one foot, but never really doing anything much. 

But at last year’s World Matchplay, Suljovic really started to burst into form, beating Gary Anderson, who became completely discombobulated by Mensur’s throwing style. A win over Gary, the world champion, was a major scalp and he went on to reach quarter-finals where he was defeated by losing finalist James Wade.
