CAF elects duo onto FIFA Council, proposal for modifications of statutes approved

The CAF Extraordinary General Assembly took place on Thursday, 29 September 2016 in Cairo, Egypt with the election of two Africana onto the FIFA Executive Council and the approval of a proposal from the CAF Executive Committee for the modification of Statutes dominating the headlines.
Also getting the approval of the Congress that saw all 54 National Associations affiliated to CAF present, was the Rules governing the application of the statutes and Rules of the General Assembly of CAF.
For the elections onto the FIFA Council for a transitory period from 30 September 2016 to 16 March 2017, CAF 1st Vice President Almamy Kabele (Guinea) and CAF Executive Committee member Kwesi Nyantakyi (Ghana) went through after polling 37 votes and 31 votes respectively. Ahmad (Madagascar), also a member of the CAF Executive Committee got 30 votes and Augustin Senghor (Senegal), president of the Senegal Football Federation polled nine.
The duo thus joins CAF President Issa Hayatou (Cameroon), Hani Abo Rida (Egypt), Constant Omari (DR Congo), Tarek Bouchamaoui (Tunisia) and Lydia Nsekera (Burundi) as the Africans on the FIFA Council.
