Moore: Fury in recess

It’s been another heavyweight week in the world of boxing, so who better to give his views on Tyson Fury, Wladimir Klitschko, Anthony Joshua, Joseph Parker and a big fight between two super-featherweight stars than Jamie Moore?

We know you are a Tyson Fury fan so where do you stand on the calls for him to be stripped of his titles?

I think we will see him back in the ring one day, I really do, I just don’t think it is going to be that soon and I wouldn’t want to see him do it until he knows he’s 100 per cent better. Look at Mike Tyson; he certainly wasn’t in the right state of mind when he fought Evander Holyfield and we all saw the consequences. Everybody should be sympathetic to what Fury’s going through but at the same time, a boxing carer is only short so it’s not really fair on others sitting around waiting for a title shot. 

I can see why they should strip him, but what I would do is as soon as he is fit again, ensure Fury gets the first crack at those titles. It is the only fair way because we don’t know how long he is going to be out. He should be given the chance to win back those titles no matter who has got them. In the past we have been critical on things like the ‘Champion in Recess’ but this is the perfect example of where things like that actually work – and make sense.

So Wladimir Klitschko is free this winter and Anthony Joshua has a fight set for November 26 with no opponent confirmed. What about Dr Steelhammer stepping in?
