Jeffress available out of Rangers’ bullpen

ARLINGTON — The Rangers are expected to regain the services of two key middle relievers, right-handers Tony Barnette and Jeremy Jeffress, during their three-game series against the Brewers.
Jeffress was available on Monday for the first time since he was activated from the restricted list on Friday. Barnette, who is dealing with a left oblique strain, could pitch as early as Tuesday.
Rangers manager Jeff Banister wants to give Barnette 48 hours of rest since throwing batting practice on Saturday. Jeffress threw batting practice on Saturday, and Banister is confident Jeffress will be ready to go because he was not dealing with an injury. It’s not clear if Jeffress will be on the postseason roster, though.
“I would like to see him in a game tonight and see where the arm is at,” Banister said of Jeffress. “Whether it is one inning or one batter, I would really like to see him in [Monday’s] game.”
Jeffress hasn’t pitched in a game for the Rangers since Aug. 23. He spent 22 days in a Houston-area rehabilitation clinic, following a DWI arrest in Dallas. He was able to throw frequently at the clinic and doesn’t think he’s lost anything from …
