Poland – 1Liga Round 1: Znicz Basket loses a game and the top position to Sokol Lancut

AlanCzujkowski The Regular Season in 1Liga just started. There was no lack of interesting games this round. The round ended with loss of the undefeated team, favorites losing the games and games ending by tiny margin.The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Znicz Basket (0-1) in Pruszkow on Sunday night. Hosts were defeated by Sokol Lancut (1-0) 80-71. Znicz Basket trailed by 12 points after 3 quarters before a 19-16 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 71-80 at the end of the game. Sokol Lancut looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. Alan Czujkowski (198-90, agency: Promotex) stepped up and scored 21 points and 5 assists for the winners and the former international Marcin Sroka (201-81, agency: Promotex) chipped in 11 points and 9 rebounds. At the losing side swingman Damian Tokarski (193-88) responded with 21 points. Znicz Basket’s coach Marek Zapalowski rotated ten players in this game, but that didn’t help. Sokol Lancut is looking forward to face GTK Gliwice on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Znicz Basket will play against Pogon Prudnik (#4) and is hoping to prove to their supporters that the loss was just an accident. Very significant was GTK Gliwice’s (#7) 77-65 road victory against Kotwica. Pawel Zmarlak (195-82, agency: Promotex) nailed 15 points and 9 rebounds for the winning side and Michal Jedrzejewski accounted for 14 points. Guard Adrian Sulinski (185-89, agency: Promotex) came up with 20 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists for Kotwica in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. GTK Gliwice will play against Sokol Lancut (#7) at home in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Kotwica will play against GKS Tychy and it may be a tough game between close rivals. A very close game took place in Inowroclaw between Notec Inowr. and AZS AGH Krk.. Notec Inowr. (1-0) got a very close home victory over AZS AGH Krk. (0-1). Notec Inowr. managed to escape with a 1-point win 74-73 on Saturday evening. Bartosz Pochocki fired 23 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Bartosz Wrobel produced 19 points and 5 rebounds for lost side. AZS AGH Krk.’s coach Wojciech Bychawski tested ten players, but that didn’t help to avoid defeat in this game. Notec Inowr. will meet Biofarm PZN in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. AZS AGH Krk. will play against SKK Siedlce (#6) and hope to win that game. Very important is a home loss of Astoria Bydg. (0-1) against newcomer Polonia Leszno (1-0) on Friday night. Host Astoria Bydg. was defeated by Polonia Leszno in a tough game in Bydgoszcz 76-80. Worth to mention a great performance of Nikodem Sirijatowicz who helped to win the game recording 16 points and 6 assists. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Polonia Leszno’s next round opponent will be Rosa II Radom (#15) at home which should be an easy win for them. Astoria Bydg. will play against Legia W-wa (#13) and hope to win that game. Important game to mention about took place in Stargard. Spojnia (1-0) saved a 1-point victory at home edging GKS Tychy (0-1) 76-75 on Sunday evening. Marcin Dymala stepped up and scored 17 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. GKS Tychy’s coach Tomasz Jagielka let to play ten players, but that didn’t help to avoid defeat in this game. Spojnia will face Nysa Klodzko (#14) in Kloszko in the next round which should be an easy win for them. GKS Tychy will play at home against Kotwica (#12) and hope to win that game. There were no shocking results in the rest of the games of round 1: Biofarm PZN won against Legia W-wa on the opponent’s court 64-60. Pogon Prudnik managed to outperform Rosa II Radom in a home game 75-70. Winless Nysa Klodzko lost to undefeated SKK Siedlce on the road 61-65.
