La Liga Table 2016 Week 6: Standings and Final Scores After Sunday
- Updated: September 26, 2016
Atletico Madrid and Villarreal made up some ground in the La Liga table with important wins Sunday.
With Real Madrid earning only a draw against Las Palmas the day before, everyone in the league knew this would be an opportunity to gain two points with victories. Barcelona took care of business Saturday, and Atletico Madrid and Villarreal followed suit to remain in the top five.
Valencia and Celta Vigo also had strong performances to close out a busy Matchday 6. Here is a look at the latest results and the updated table.
Recap
Atletico Madrid did not start the year as anticipated with draws in their first two matches. However, they have bounced back with 13 points out of a possible 15 in the past five contests. Only a draw against Barcelona ruins a flawless stretch.
The latest win was anything but smooth, though, with Deportivo not making anything easy. The two sides battled to a 0-0 score through the first half with the home team missing out on a few close chances.
Even when Deportivo went down to 10 men after a red card, Atletico still couldn’t break through with a score. This was until Antoine Griezmann saved the day with a goal in the 70th minute, captured by beIN Sports:
