Michael van Gerwen won his Champions League of Darts shoot-out with Peter Wright to remain on course for his fifth title in a week.

The world number one won all three Players Championship events in Barnsley last week to go with the European Grand Prix he won in Germany last Sunday and he booked his place in the final four of the inaugural Champions League with a 10-4 win over Snakebite.

Both men recorded a win and a defeat on the opening day in Cardiff meaning the winner would move through to a semi-final with world champion Gary Anderson.

And it was Van Gerwen who put aside the disappointment of his defeat to Phil Taylor on Saturday, to sweep past Snakebite, surging into a 5-1 lead with a blistering display that left Wright playing catch-up from the outset.

With Wright improving as the men went on both men continued the assault on the treble 20, but Van Gerwen had already done the damage and closed out the afternoon session with a win that gives him every chance of revenge on …
