DeAndre Yedlin Leaves with Injury After Setting Up Goal

Yedlin had an eventful 73 minutes on Saturday for Newcastle United, as he created an Aston Villa own goal and left the pitch with an injury.

The fullback’s cross in the 29th minute deflected off Tommy Elphick to put the Magpies up by a goal at Villa Park. However, he was forced to exit the contest in the middle of the second half with an injury.

The start was welcome for Yedlin, who had been fighting for playing time in previous weeks at his new club. No news was given on the significance of the injury.

Elsewhere in the Championship, Danny Williams started for Reading in their 1-0 victory over Huddersfield Town. The win moved the Royals up to fourth place.

Jonathan Spector and Eric Lichaj made the starting XIs for Birmingham City and Nottingham Forest respectively on Saturday.

Up in the Premier League, Geoff Cameron started in defensive midfield for Stoke City at the bet365 Stadium. The Potters played to a 1-1 draw with West Bromwich Albion.

Brad Guzan did not start for Middlesbrough in their 2-1 defeat at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur. Cameron Carter-Vickers, who made his Spurs debut on Wednesday in the 5-0 EFL Cup win over Gillingham, was an unused sub for Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

Lynden Gooch, who has become a regular starter under David Moyes at Sunderland, did not make the matchday squad for Saturday’s contest with Crystal Palace.
