Jose’s start pushed back to Monday vs. Mets

MIAMI — It wasn’t known for sure if Jose Fernandez would start another game this season for the Marlins. But he took batting practice prior to Saturday’s game as if his season wasn’t over just yet.
Fernandez’s 30th start of 2016 was pushed back a day, from Sunday’s series finale with the Braves, to Monday’s series opener against the Mets at Marlins Park, the club announced during BP.
“He went eight innings last time out,” Marlins manager Don Mattingly said. “We wanted to give him the extra day.”
Fernandez pitched eight frames in Tuesday’s 1-0 home win over the Nationals. The Marlins’ ace gave up just three hits and struck out 12 without walking a batter. He was in complete control, retiring 21 straight batters during one stretch.
