Kinsler aiming to be cleared for return Friday

MINNEAPOLIS — Most of the Tigers were still rolling into Target Field for Thursday’s day-night doubleheader against the Twins when Ian Kinsler was working out on the rain-soaked outfield grass Thursday morning. Detroit’s second baseman had to ask a ground crew worker if he could use the infield for a few minutes to take ground balls.
It wasn’t out of pregame preparation. Kinsler wasn’t available for the game per concussion protocol. He was trying to get a crucial step out of the way to be ready for Friday’s game against Kansas City at Comerica Park.
As long as Kinsler doesn’t show any lingering concussion symptoms, he should be good to go.
Kinsler hasn’t played since Sunday in Cleveland, where he took a Trevor Bauer fastball off his helmet. He felt lingering …
