Sanchez belts 2 homers, at 19 for career

ST. PETERSBURG — For the second time in as many nights, the Rays opted to pitch to Gary Sanchez with first base open. The Yankees’ rookie sensation responded with the same result: a long three-run homer.

Sanchez became the fastest player in Major League history to hit 18 home runs, launching a blast inside the left-field foul pole off Alex Cobb that gave the Yankees a 6-0 lead on Wednesday evening. The homer came in Sanchez’s 45th career game. He then added a solo shot in the sixth off reliever Justin Marks for his third multihomer game to push the Yanks’ lead to 8-4.
