Woodruff, Diaz win Brewers’ Minors honors

MILWAUKEE — Brandon Woodruff’s scouting report requires an update after the right-hander rode an uptick in velocity to the Brewers’ Minor League Pitcher of the Year honor on Tuesday.
Coming off a season in which he led all of Minor League Baseball with 173 strikeouts, Woodruff was honored along with Isan Diaz, the 20-year-old middle infielder named Brewers Minor League Player of the Year. Since 2003, those awards have been called the “Robin Yount Performance Awards” after the Brewers’ former first-round Draft pick and Hall of Famer.
“With Brandon, you kind of knew what you were going to get every night,” said Double-A Biloxi pitching coach Chris Hook, who joined the Brewers’ big league staff as an extra coach on Tuesday. “He’s got really good stuff, he commands the baseball very well, and he competes like crazy. He’s got a nice mix of all those attributes.”
