MIAMI — Marlins right fielder Giancarlo Stanton put an end to his home run drought on Monday night, and the slugger did so in a big way.
Stanton blasted a solo home run off Washington’s A.J. Cole with one out in the second inning, giving the Marlins a 1-0 lead, and the drive was a no-doubter at Marlins Park. According to Statcast™, the laser to left projected to travel 448 feet from home plate, with an exit velocity of 115 mph. The ball traveled beyond the Budweiser Bar area on the promenade level, where a fan caught it on the fly.
The home run was the 26th of the season for Stanton and his first since Aug. 13 against the White Sox. In the ninth inning of that game, the three-time All-Star suffered a Grade 3 left groin …
