George Scott may take aim at the All-Weather Championships with Mr Black should he build on his victory in the ApolloBet New Website Maiden Stakes at Kempton.

After getting bogged down in desperate conditions on his debut at Thirsk, the son of Showcasing was made 5/2 favourite to make amends in the five-furlong contest.

Positioned just off the pace, the two-year-old justified his position as market leader when wearing down long-time leader Rapid Ranger before obliging by a length and a quarter and initiating a double for winning rider James Doyle.

The Newmarket handler said: “Being a breeze-up buy he has always shown quite a lot of speed.

“Nothing can get him off the bridle at home. He ran on jumping ground first time out, but we only realised that when we got there and we let him take his chance.

“He is a very fast horse and has won comfortably in the end. I would like to run him again, but I can’t imagine it will be on turf as he really wants top of the ground.

“We will stick at five as he has got a lot of raw speed, but at some point we’ll step him up to six. The Three-Year-Old Championship could be something we look at if he proves he is up to it.”
