Jimmie Johnson: ‘I Just Screwed Up’

Share: JOLIET, Ill. – A pit road speeding penalty bit Jimmie Johnson in Sunday’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 400 at Chicagoland Speedway. Johnson appeared to be the driver to beat in Sunday’s Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup opener. But despite leading over 100 laps, more than any race this year, his hopes were dashed when he was called for speeding on pit road during a stop on lap 234. Johnson was furious on his in-car radio when informed of the call. He tried his best to rally back but couldn’t finish any higher than 12th on Sunday. “I’m making adjustments and I was dumbfounded that happened,” Johnson said. “You can’t argue it. Maybe a mistake on our part somewhere, definitely a mistake on my side, but I by no way shape or form thought that I was speeding. “I was probably the slowest down pit road all day just to try to avoid it and got nailed.
