L1: Ten-man Walsall stun Bolton

Overnight leaders Bolton slipped up at 10-man Walsall, while David Mirfin’s header hoisted Scunthorpe to the top of League One.

Bolton suffered a shock 1-0 defeat as their unbeaten league start was halted in a lively contest that had Walsall’s Joe Edwards sent off in the 16th minute for a challenge on Chris Taylor and Jason McCarthy striking the winner nine minutes later.

The visitors, who slipped to second spot, also had Keshi Anderson seeing red at the end of the game.

It was a much better day for Scunthorpe, though, who beat Shrewsbury 1-0 thanks to Mirfin’s winner deep in first-half stoppage time to secure Graham Alexander’s side their fifth win of the season.

Bury striker Hallam Hope’s double earned a 2-1 win at Swindon – a first league success on the road for the Shakers this season.

Hope opened the scoring in the 13th minute and struck again on the stroke of half-time. Jonathan Obika later pulled one back.

Bradford were held 1-1 at home against Bristol Rovers and dropped to fourth. Their game was temporarily delayed in the 65th minute by referee Andy Haines due to a drone circling the stadium.
