Stiff wrist won’t slow Jansen in pennant chase

PHOENIX — Kenley Jansen left the Dodgers clubhouse Friday night with his 45th save and a brace on his right wrist.
The save, which secured a hard-fought 3-2 Dodgers win over the D-backs, marked a career high. The brace is to address what happens when your club needs you to set career-highs.
“I’m not sitting. Just anti-inflammatories,” said Jansen, who dismissed the discomfort as bothersome, but not serious.
He said the wrist is stiff when he begins to throw, loosens up in the bullpen, then stiffens up five minutes after the game. Maybe that’s why he allowed a ninth-inning triple to Chris Owings and his first run in the last 10 appearances, although Jansen’s velocity actually crept up to 96 mph and was consistently at 94.
“I’m still standing,” he said.
And still pitching. With his club whittling down the magic number, a postseason on the horizon and then free agency, Jansen said this isn’t the time to rest.
