Free-agent shooting guard J.R. Smith is still unsigned with just over a month remaining until the 2016-17 NBA regular season gets underway, but he recently disclosed that he could be nearing a decision about his future.

Smith Aiming to Strike New Deal with Cavaliers Friday, Sept. 16
In an interview with Complex’s Adam Caparell released Friday, Smith said he hopes to re-sign with the Cleveland Cavaliers soon but that the two sides have some things to work out.
“Well, obviously we’re not where we want to be at from a personal standpoint,” Smith said. “But it’s more than just numbers. I don’t want to feel like I’m taking advantage of the Cavs for everything they’ve done for me, and I don’t want them to feel like I’m taking advantage of them. It’s more of a mutual respect thing.”
