THIS WEEK’S NEWS, NOTES AND NUMBERS… STAT OF THE WEEK: The Bruins kicked off rookie camp on Thursday, September 15, with 25 players on the roster (15 forwards, eight defensemen, two goaltenders). The average height and weight of the camp attendees is 6-foot-1, 196 pounds, while the average age is 21 years and three months. QUOTE OF THE WEEK: “We need to put the best players on the ice. If you pass somebody or the opportunity is there, take a hold of it, because this is really about competition from here on out. We were pretty specific about that, so I think it lends to your question of asking, ‘Is there an opportunity for a guy to make a jump?’ Yeah, there absolutely is, every day.” – General Manager Don Sweeney on the possibility of rookie camp attendees making the opening night roster. Fifty yrs later, Bruins rookies hit ice in Buffalo. TRAINING CAMP PRESENTED BY AT&T: The Boston Bruins will begin their annual Training Camp, presented by AT&T, on Thursday, September 22. Practices will begin on Friday, September 23 at the Warrior Ice Arena (80 Guest Street, Brighton, MA, 02135) and will be open to the public on a first-come, first-served basis. The Bruins will play seven games during the upcoming camp with three of those games being played at the TD Garden (9/26 vs. Columbus, 9/28 vs. Detroit, 10/8 vs. Philadelphia). A full training camp roster and schedule will be announced in the coming days. WORLD CUP OF HOCKEY: Six Bruins players will be participating in the World Cup of Hockey from September 17 – October 1 in Toronto.
