Jose Aldo would ‘prefer to fight Pettis’ over Holloway if McGregor is unavailable

As time goes by, it’s looking more and more likely that Conor McGregor will not be returning to the featherweight division to defend his title.

Prior to UFC 202, which saw ‘The Notorious’ rematch and beat Nate Diaz via majority decision in the main event, UFC president Dana White promised Jose Aldo that McGregor would return to 145 for a title unification bout.

However, since McGregor’s potentially record-breaking pay-per-view with Diaz last month, it’s looking like the Irishman will challenge Eddie Alvarez for the lightweight championship instead. McGregor has even hinted that his next fight might be in a completely different sport, further hyping a potential showdown with Floyd Mayweather Jr. in the boxing ring.

‘Scarface’, who captured the interim featherweight title after cruising to a unanimous decision over Frankie Edgar at UFC 200, says he’d like to fight Anthony Pettis if McGregor isn’t available.

No. 3 ranked contender Max Holloway has won his last 9 fights, but Aldo believes a fight with Pettis would be the bigger sell.
