‘Rumble’ Doesn’t Want ‘Stankass Interim Title,’ Cormier Suggests Bout at UFC 207

Anthony Johnson and UFC President Dana White might not see eye-to-eye on the light heavyweight contender’s next opponent.Recently, White seemed interested in booking a No. 1 contender bout between Johnson and interim 205-pound champion Jon Jones. “I’m in a weird place,” White said on the UFC “Unfiltered” podcast. “We saw that fight [between Johnson and Glover Teixeira], and it was a great fight. I’ve still got to talk to [UFC matchmaker] Joe Silva and see what he thinks. But I’m thinking maybe we do Anthony Johnson vs. Jon Jones to see who gets to fight Daniel Cormier.” On Thursday, Johnson expressed his distaste toward that potential option. “I’m not fighting for a stankass interim title…That thing is worthless,” Johnson wrote on Twitter. After Johnson scored a first-round knockout of Teixeira at UFC 202, both he and Cormier seemed to agree that a rematch — Cormier submitted Johnson in their first meeting at UFC 187 — was the most logical next option. Cormier has repeatedly said that he has no desire to wait for Jones to resolve his issues with USADA.
