Gomes’ return delayed by right hand injury

CHICAGO — The return of Indians catcher Yan Gomes is on hold — again.
Gomes was hit on the right hand on Wednesday night while playing with Double-A Akron in what was supposed to be his final rehab game. He has been sidelined since July 17 with a separated right shoulder.
A scan of Gomes’ hand was taken on Thursday, and the Indians sent it to noted hand surgeon Dr. Thomas Graham (formerly of the Cleveland Clinic) to be evaluated.
