Motor Racing Network Pit Reporters Kim Coon and Pete Pistone discuss a number of topics in this week’s Chicagoland edition of “Four Tires and Fuel.”
How would you categorize the Sprint Cup Series regular season?
Kim: Relatively exciting. Compared to past seasons, I thought the first 26 races of 2016 were entertaining. Thirteen different faces have been in Victory Lane, two of which were first-time winners. There have been some really exciting finishes – The Daytona 500, April Richmond and Sonoma come to mind immediately. We’ve seen the rise of the youth movement (Kyle Larson, Chase Elliott, Ryan Blaney, etc.), as well as the resurgence of a veteran (Tony Stewart) and the return of a legend (Jeff Gordon). Overall, I’ve enjoyed it. Pete: Very competitive and mostly entertaining, which are the two things I think all sports strive to be for fans. There were 13 different race winners in the first 26 races of the season with a couple of first time winners thrown in there as Kyle Larson and Chris Buescher found Victory Lane. A photo finish start date year at the Daytona 500 and another came only a couple weeks later at Phoenix. Controversy was also in the mix. Overall I’d say the regular season was a plus.
