Pelicans repeat as Carolina League champs

The Myrtle Beach Pelicans are champions once again.
The Cubs’ Class A Advanced Affiliate captured the Carolina League championship with a 5-3 win over Lynchburg (Indians) on Wednesday night, becoming the league’s first back-to-back champion since Winston-Salem did so in 1985 and ’86.
After beating Salem 2-1 in the semifinals, Myrtle Beach lost Game 1 of the Finals before catching fire and winning three in a row to clinch the club’s fourth title.
The Pelicans split a title with Wilmington in 1999 and won the league outright in 2000 and 2015.
Lynchburg, fighting to keep its title hopes alive, got on the board first via Francisco Mejia’s (Indians’ No. 4, No. 88 overall) RBI double in the bottom …
