Gomes’ return could come on Friday

CHICAGO — Barring a last-second setback, Indians catcher Yan Gomes will be activated on Friday and probably will be in the lineup for that night’s game with the Detroit Tigers at Progressive Field.
Gomes, who has been out since July 17 with a separated right shoulder, caught all nine innings of a rehab game with Double-A Akron on Tuesday. At the plate, he went 2-for-4 with an RBI.
