- Updated: September 14, 2016
Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has admitted his side will not be playing in the competition they want to play in when they take on Feyenoord in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday, but the Red Devils will try to win, nonetheless.
As reported by Marca’s Chris Winterburn, Moutinho was brutally honest ahead of his team’s first Europa League match, but he highlighted the respect his team has to show for the competition:
Mourinho on Europa League, “This is not a competition that Man United want, that I want or the players want but it’s where we are.”

Mourinho, “We have to look at the competition with respect, we want to do well for a club of our dimension is not to go out in group phase.”

He also made it clear the goal is to win the Europa League, per the team’s official Twitter account:

Per Simon Peach of the Press Association, he spoke of motivation and how his players will have to find it:
Mourinho: “I know the Europa League is not the big dream of every big player, but you’re not in the CL – you have to find your motivation”
