Having declared with a lead of 516, with two-and-a-half sessions remaining in the Duleep Trophy final, India Blue took the wickets of Sudip Chatterjee and Shikhar Dhawan by tea. India Red’s worries were compounded by Abhinav Mukund retiring hurt after being hit by a nasty delivery from Pankaj Singh.
Much as he had in India Red’s first innings, Pankaj bowled a venomous first spell that had the top-order batsmen in trouble. His second delivery cut into the left-handed Mukund to hit him on the back pad in front of the stumps, but the umpire turned down a vociferous lbw appeal. Even though Mukund was batting out of his crease, he was lucky to get away with it. His luck did not last much longer, though; the fifth ball of that over reared up from back of a length to hit him on his left shoulder. After initially trying to bat on, Mukund decided to leave the field for treatment.
