Week 2 Waiver Wire: Examining Top Fantasy Football Targets
- Updated: September 13, 2016
Week 1 in fantasy football is a trial run for every owner’s lineup. While your team may have looked good on paper, it’s important not to freak out after one week.
Whether you won or lost in Week 1, there are still 16 more weeks of football that will be played, and the only to way to move on and improve as the season goes on is to tinker with the waiver wire and find some sleepers.
Before we dive into players that you should pick up for Week 2, let’s get the players who had fluke games out of the way first.
The likes of Jalen Richard for the Oakland Raiders should not be picked up. Don’t have a knee-jerk reaction to his 84-yard, one-touchdown performance against a bad New Orleans Saints defense.
Richard had three attempts the entire game. There are more dependable tailbacks to pick up at this point in time.
While Vance McDonald did score a touchdown against the Los Angeles Rams, the San Francisco 49ers tight end only had three targets, catching two of them for 14 yards. Without the score, McDonald would’ve ended the game with 1.4 points in standard-scoring Yahoo leagues.
That’s a risk you shouldn’t be willing to take.
With that out of the way, let’s get to the top players you should look for on the waiver wire that are available in more than 50 percent of Yahoo leagues.
Alex Smith, QB, Kansas City Chiefs
Trailing 24-3 to the San Diego Chargers halfway through the third quarter, Alex Smith put the Kansas City Chiefs on his back and carried them to a 33-27 overtime victory.
