Brook defends his trainer for stopping GGG fight: ‘It could’ve ended up seriously bad’

Kell Brook’s valiant effort against Gennady Golovkin (36-0, 33 KOs) ended in defeat, as Brook’s trainer, Dominic Ingle, chose to throw in the towel after Golovkin dominated the 5th round, even without a knockdown. Brook suffered a broken eye socket in the 2nd round, and he admitted in the post-fight interview that he was seeing “3 or 4” of Golovkin from then on.

The corner’s decision to stop the fight was met with boos from the London crowd at The O2 Arena, as the fight as a whole wasn’t a blowout, and Brook (36-1, 25 KOs) was taking big punches from GGG, but he wasn’t out on his feet. In fact, one judge had Brook up after four rounds, while the other two had it even at 38-38.
