Cardinals activate Diaz off disabled list

ST. LOUIS — Cardinals rookie shortstop Aledmys Diaz returned to St. Louis on Sunday morning and was activated off the 15-day disabled list before the team’s series finale with the Brewers. A right thumb fracture landed him on the DL on Aug. 1 after he was hit by a pitch against the Marlins on July 31.
Diaz walked into the clubhouse and was greeted with a warm welcome from his teammates. It took him three weeks after his cast was removed to feel comfortable throwing again. He took grounders and swung in the batting cage Sunday.
