TORONTO — David Ortiz looks primed to create plenty of memories in his final pennant race. In Sunday’s wild slugfest against the Blue Jays, the slugger hit a go-ahead, three-run homer in the sixth inning against Joaquin Benoit.
It was career long ball No. 535, allowing Ortiz to pass Jimmie Foxx for sole possession of 18th on the all-time list, and putting him just one behind Mickey Mantle.
While it was Ortiz’s second lifetime homer (including postseason) against Benoit, it was not his biggest.
