USMNT Watch: Altidore, Wood, Yedlin Score in Superb Weekend for Americans
- Updated: September 11, 2016
Everywhere you looked across the globe this week, an American was scoring.
Not only did forwards Jozy Altidore and Bobby Wood return to the club level from the international break with tallies, but a few unexpected faces put their names on the scoresheet as well.
Landon Donovan also came out of nowhere to produce the unexpected headline that he’s returning to the pitch for the LA Galaxy.
We’ll have more on the USMNT scorers and what Donovan’s return means in our weekly USMNT Watch.
Jozy Altidore Continues Hot Streak in MLS
Altidore extended his hot run of form in front of goal for Toronto FC in the 33rd minute of the Reds’ 2-1 win over Chicago Fire on Saturday.
The goal was the sixth in eight matches for Altidore, who is showing everyone what he is capable of when he’s healthy.

Altidore’s form should help Toronto earn the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference, and if it continues deep into the fall, he could be a menace up top for the Hexagonal opener against Mexico.
Michael Bradley also played 90 minutes for Toronto in the victory at Toyota Park.
Benny Feilhaber opened the strong weekend for Americans in MLS with an assist in Sporting Kansas City’s 3-3 draw with the Houston Dynamo on Friday.
Juan Agudelo, who is buried far down the USMNT forward depth chart, recorded a goal and an assist in the New England Revolution’s 3-1 win over New York City FC. Lee Nguyen also scored for Jay Heaps’ side in the key victory in the Eastern Conference playoff hunt.
Chris Wondolowski, who is still in the mix for international call-ups despite being 33 years old, netted the San Jose Earthquakes’ lone strike in their 1-1 draw with the Seattle Sounders on Saturday.
Danny Williams Scores Game-Winner; DeAndre Yedlin Nets Strike off the Bench
Danny Williams notched the game-winner for Reading in a curious match at the Madejski Stadium against Ipswich Town on Friday.
