For the second straight year, Serena Williams is absent from Arthur Ashe Stadium for the women’s final of the U.S. Open.
Williams followed up her semifinal loss to Roberta Vinci in 2015 by dropping a straight-set match to 10th seed Karolina Pliskova on Thursday. The big-serving 24-year-old Czech will square off against Germany’s Angelique Kerber on Saturday for a chance at her first Grand Slam title.
