Not A Bad Day As Experience For Tokyo 2020 Goes: Ellie Robinson, 15, A Paralympic Champ

The second day of action on the pool at the Paralympics witnessed gold for 15-year-old Ellie Robinson, of Great Britain. She won the S6 50m butterfly for her maiden Paralympic title. Like teammate Ellie Simmonds, the Northampton schoolgirl has achondroplasia.

She was inspired by Simmonds at London 2012 and competes in the same class.

“It’s so weird, it’s not sunk in yet,” Robinson said. “I feel like someone’s going to be ‘Ellie, wake up’. This whole experience doesn’t feel like I’m actually doing it.

“I came to this meet for experience, so to win the gold medal, oh my days. It’s going to give me so much confidence going into Tokyo (in 2020).”

In other action there was a world-record win for Zou Liankang  (CHN) in the men’s 100m backstroke-S2 at the helm of Chinese performances that dominated events in the pool.
