Boxing Breakdown: Roman Gonzalez vs Carlos Cuadras
- Updated: September 9, 2016
Saturday night, HBO wraps up their day of boxing with Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez (45-0; 38 KO) taking on Carlos Cuadras (35-0-1; 27 KO) in a 12 round Super Flyweight (115 lb.) fight. Ring Magazine lists Gonzalez as the sport’s #1 pound for pound fighter, but he’s moving up in weight so is unranked at 115 – Cuadras is the division’s #2. HBO World Championship Boxing Gonzalez vs. Cuadras airs live this Saturday, September 10 on HBO with a fight time of 10:00 p.m. ET.
This is a fascinating fight not just for tonight, but for the future, and that’s largely because of the step up in weight class. The amazing run of Manny Pacquiao may have spoiled fans into thinking jumping through multiple divisions as world champion is common, but it’s not as easy as the Hall of Famer would have you believe. Gonzalez has made a few steps up in weight, and now makes another one, instantly stepping in deep against the division’s #2. #1 in the division is Japan’s Naoya Inoue, and a Gonzalez vs. Inoue superfight is one hardcore fans have been salivating over for some times. Tonight is a crucial step towards that showdown – one of the most exciting possible fights in boxing today.
How do these two stack …
