RemaLascelles
The name Lascelles has been one of the best known around Derby basketball for decades, but it’s been a while since any have competed for the Trailblazers on a regular basis. Now that’s set to change, with the return of Rema Lascelles (198-F-92), after a successful spell at Hawaii Pacific University.
As the eldest son of Derby legend Tim Lascelles, basketball has always been in his blood and it was no surprise to see him bouncing a ball from a very early age whilst watching his Dad play for the old Derby Bucks franchise in the BBL at Moorways over two decades ago.
Rema then fostered his love for the sport by becoming involved with the Derby Trailblazers Junior programme. The 6’6′ point guard progressed through the year groups, gradually improving and impressing those around him because of passion and commitment.
A call up to the England U18 team wasn’t long away, nor was the opportunity to ply his trade in the Trailblazers Senior Men’s team, as it competed for Division One glory. By the 2011/12 season, he had established himself as the club’s starting point guard, where he led the side with an average of 4.36 assists per game and was ranked sixth in the league.
He helped the Trailblazers to finish third in Division One that season, as well as reaching the NBL Division One Championship Final and winning the National Trophy. It was teammate Rishi Kakad who recommended Rema to take a look at Hawaii Pacific University, where he spent a successful four-year period.
