US Open Tennis 2016: TV Schedule and Men’s Semifinal Predictions

As the men’s side of the U.S. Open progressed, it looked like a championship matchup between top seed Novak Djokovic and No. 2 seed Andy Murray was in the cards.

There were some physical questions about Djokovic’s health in the early stages concerning his wrist and right arm, but he has made it to the semifinals. Three of his opponents either could not play or had to retire, but he has survived and advanced.

The same cannot be said for Murray, who cruised to victory in his first four matches before meeting Kei Nishikori in the quarterfinals. While Murray won two of the first three sets, Nishikori came on with a rush and won the match in five sets.

Murray, who had won at Wimbledon and claimed an Olympic gold medal in Rio de Janeiro last month, was unable to hold on to his momentum, and it was a shocking defeat.

As a result, Djokovic will meet Frenchman Gael Monfils in the first semifinal at approximately 3 p.m. ET at Arthur Ashe Stadium on Friday. Nishikori will try to earn a spot in the final when he faces Switzerland’s Stan Wawrinka shortly after the Djokovic-Monfils match is over.

Djokovic has played just two full matches in the tournament. Jerzy Janowicz extended Djokovic to four sets in the first round, and the Serbian defeated Kyle Edmund in straight sets in the fourth round.
