Richmond Return for Gordon

Jeff Gordon will make another unexpected Sprint Cup Series start at Richmond International Raceway in Saturday night’s Federated Auto Parts 400.
Gordon thought last year’s edition of the race would be his final appearance at the three-quarter-mile oval as he entered the final phase of his career before heading into retirement. But the four-time series champion was called back into limited duty this season as part of the fill-in plan while Dale Earnhardt Jr. recovers from a concussion.
It will be the sixth race Gordon has driven as a sub for Earnhardt and the No. 88 team. His best finish (11th) came on Bristol Motor Speedway’s half-mile so Richmond, also a short track, may provide a good opportunity for a top-10 finish.
