Mariners’ 12 hits not enough to catch Rangers

SEATTLE — The Rangers keep pushing toward their seventh division title in club history while continuing to push the Mariners out of the postseason picture.
The Mariners don’t have much margin for error with just 24 games left and the Rangers made it harder on them by holding on for a 10-7 victory on Tuesday night at Safeco Field.
The loss dropped the Mariners to 12 ½ games behind the Rangers in the American League West and six games behind the Orioles in the American League Wild Card race. The Mariners also still have the Astros, Tigers, Yankees and Royals between them and the Orioles.
