Shelton out, Mottola in as Rays hitting coach

ST. PETERSBURG — Derek Shelton has been dismissed as Rays hitting coach, the team announced on Tuesday. Chad Mottola will take over the position.
“We are grateful for all that Derek has given to the Rays for the past seven seasons,” Rays president of baseball operations Matt Silverman said in a statement. “He brought great energy to our clubhouse and his work ethic with our hitters was outstanding.
