Lack of depth, experience highlighted by Marlins’ loss

MIAMI — A hanging breaking ball, three errors, and the lack of timely hits all factored into the Marlins’ 6-2 loss to the Phillies on Monday afternoon at Marlins Park.
For Miami, the overall sloppy play continues to plague the club at a time it needs to elevate its game to chip back into serious National League Wild Card contention.
Manager Don Mattingly has preached “no excuses” all season, but the volume of injuries, coupled with a shortage of organizational depth, appears to be taking its toll.
