Strong women’s field will square off in Edmonton

The 2016 ITU World Triathlon Edmonton is here and as it is the final WTS stop before the Grand Final in Cozumel, the women elites will see a rapid sprint distance course. With the intention of collecting as many rankings points as possible, the race is tight for who will be crowned the WTS World Champion later this month.

With as strong of a roster that Edmonton has in store for this Sunday, the women’s race will be anything but predictable.

Flora Duffy (BER) continues to have one of the strongest seasons of her WTS career, which has rewarded her with the continued reign of being the Columbia Threadneedle rankings leader and first on the start list this weekend. After just missing out on the podium in the Series openers by finishing fourth in Abu Dhabi and Gold Coast, after her incredible solo bike ride in Cape Town where she earned the bronze, she has not stepped down from the WTS podium. She then seized the silver in Leeds and then her first WTS gold in Stockholm. She also earned the silver medal in Edmonton last year, so all odds are in her favor for her to do well this Sunday.

But standing in her way is an army of Brits that could take any medal contention away from the rest of the field.

Vicky Holland returns as the reigning Edmonton champion. She outstood the weather elements last year and earned the Edmonton title. This year, her results indict that she has a real chance to uphold the title again. She earned the bronze medal in Leeds and then just recently earned a bronze …
