Alderson: Walker should be back this season

NEW YORK — The back issue that has sidelined Neil Walker for much of August is a pain-management injury that should not end his season, general manager Sandy Alderson said Wednesday, a day after manager Terry Collins expressed concern that Walker would not play again in 2016.
Walker is dealing with a herniated disc in his back, and he was scheduled for a second opinion on Wednesday. Alderson called it a “pretty routine” disc injury that is causing weakness is Walker’s lower body, “but not significant enough to prevent him from playing.”
“The notion that what he has currently is ‘career-ending’ is a fabrication,” Alderson said. “I don’t want people to become too concerned about where we are. I don’t think it’s as serious as it’s been portrayed.”
