Kiran Carlson took 5 for 28 on his first-class debut to help bowl Northamptonshire out for 269 on the opening day at Wantage Road. It was a remarkable introduction for the 18-year-old offspinner from Cardiff.
Flighting the ball well and enjoying help from a dry, used wicket, Carlson – playing only due to Craig Meschede’s back injury – tore through the Northants lower order. The home side collapsed in the afternoon, losing 9 for 84, although it may yet prove a heathy total.
Carlson’s first wicket came as a a great relief for Glamorgan with the final ball before lunch. He broke an opening stand of 140 with a full delivery that beat Ben Duckett’s sweep and took out leg stump. He returned to pick up a second wicket in the over before tea, a delivery …
