Chad Le Clos & A 48.66 100 ‘Fly Provide A Spark At A Damp Squib Of A S/C World Cup

The poorly world cup got a tiny tonic from Chad le Clos (RSA) today as the South African rattled his own world record in the 100m butterfly, his 48.66 victory the highlight of the closing action in Berlin.
Out in 22.91 and back in 25.75, Le Clos lost most of the deficit to his global mark of 48.44 from 2014 down the opening lap, a 22.59 the time on the board two years ago. Le Clos’ race epitomised the weakness of the post-Olympics world cup, with none of those who might have given the South African a race having opted into the ailing series.
